Featherweight was one of the first songs we wrote as a band with Pete and was also the first we'd written as The People The Poet which wasn't to a fans story. I wrote a lot of lyrics off the back of Heart Of A Lion as it was the last to go on The Narrator and I think in my mid twenties I seemed to be battling a lot. This was something I'd written lyrically at the time as I was really struggling to get sleep and felt really weak, it's quite funny to hear it now and reflect on as I didn't realise I had type 1 diabetes at the time and that was what I was fighting.
We wrote this in Lewis's parent's shed where we wrote all of the first album and quite a lot after until we started jamming at the studio. We crammed into that shed often with Lewis's parent's coming in at the end to have a listen (although the neighbours at the end of the street could often hear us jamming). This was 1 of 3 or 4 songs we bashed out in a quick recording session but never got around to doing many backing vocals
